2024 AFL Round 11 Preview & Betting Tips
Geelong vs Greater Western Sydney
Saturday 4:35 AEST, May 24th, GMHBA Stadium
Cats coach, Chris Scott, will have the luxury of welcoming back a host of walk-up starters; Tom Hawkins, Sam De Koning, Jeremy Cameron and Mitch Duncan all returning to the lineup after time spent under separate injury clouds.
On the other side of the ledger, GWS are left without the much called upon services of key defender Jack Buckley, to be replaced by athletic tall Leek Aleer who towelled up Carlton’s Harry McKay in his only showing of 2024.
After charging out the gates in the new year Geelong looked like reaching the heights of 2021 but were quickly grounded with Melbourne able to claim their scalp, before falling at the hands of Port Adelaide in consecutive weeks.
A seed of doubt was then planted in their minds and Gold Coast were able to take full toll – albeit whilst they were undermanned – by notching up a 64-point drumming in front of Darwin locals to really throw the cat amongst the pigeons.
It hasn’t been smooth sailing either for fans of the orange team, enduring a three week stretch that mirrors that of Geelong’s with their flag credentials also taking a hit, after starting the year in a similarly rich vein of form.
The trio of defeats GWS has suffered present as horror reading, kick started by cross town rivals Sydney who managed bragging rights in the battle of the bridge, the next two, to less worthy opponents in both Essendon and the Western Bulldogs.
A real head scratcher for coach Adam Kingsley, who along with captain Toby Greene will have instructed the playing group to bring their mouthguards to training. Whilst this isn’t the time of year to be peaking, wins pre bye rounds are crucial.
Match Prediction: The Cats home ground advantage carries less meaning after the Power busted through their fortress a fortnight ago, although a week on the road has given time for Geelong to rebuild those trust walls in search of four points.
Happy enough to side with the Tom Stewart led side but with no real confidence to delve into any talk surrounding margins. With the ins the Cats have they should be primed and ready to go after a stint on the sidelines.

Brad Close 1+ goal – Always seems to be a hot commodity in this space but presents at value tomorrow that punters will jump all over. Continues to bob up in the right place at the right time to hit the scoreboard.
Mitch Duncan 20+ disposal – Returns to the side to resume his half back role where he racks up uncontested footy playing as a loose defender. Inaccuracy in front of goal for GWS will certainly help grow his tally.
Gryan Miers 20+ disposal – Hasn’t dipped below the mark at all this season and we expect nothing to change here. Is deadly by foot as one of those players that you love having the ball in the hands of.
Tom Green 30+ disposal – Flirted with most disposals idea being the Giants outright prime mover in the absence of Josh Kelly, but expectations remain high for a big afternoon of leather poisoning nonetheless.
