The Cox Plate is the premier weight for age horse race in Australia and always produces a brilliant line up. This year is no different, even with the unfortunate scratching and retirement of Atlantic Jewel. It’s A Dundeel, Puissance De Lune, Happy Trails, Green Moon, Fiorente and Super Cool are just some of the talented horses that will go around at Moonee Valley on Saturday afternoon.
Those who followed us last week would’ve enjoyed the Caulfield Cup where we had the winner, Fawkner, as our top pick. The Cox Plate offers many horses who are genuine chances. We’re putting Puissance De Lune on top, narrowly ahead of the favourite It’s a Dundeel. PDL has strong form lines around Fawkner and although it was originally gearing for the Melbourne Cup, trainer Darren Weir suggested during the week that the Cox Plate was now its focus. PDL has drawn well in this race in barrier 8, will sit off the leaders and come home strong. The rain earlier in the week will have taken the sting out of the track which will also suit. It’s A Dundeel will be thereabouts but there are a few question marks with its hoof and the plate that was fitted that make us lean towards PDL who has only finished worse than second on one occasion during its Australian campaign.
For some value, expect Shamus Award to put on a strong showing as the lightweight out in front, while Long John might just surprise.
You can lock in a guaranteed profit of around $38 by backing PDL on Ladbrokes and then laying off on Betfair. This is guaranteed profit regardless of which horse wins. Yep, it’s free money! Here's what you need to do:
The above technique works on any of the horses, but you’ll require more money in your Betfair account to lay the horses at bigger odds.
Good luck in the Cox Plate and enjoy the day!
