Cannington hosts a big night of greyhound racing this Saturday, March 23rd, with the Group 1 Galaxy and Group 1 Perth Cup both on the program!
We've covered both feature races, as well as one other race that appeals for betting purposes below!
The Group 1 Galaxy (Race 3) is set to jump at 4.57pm WST.

Race 3 - Group 1 Galaxy
Tornado Tears will dominate the Group 1 Galaxy (715m) after smashing the track record last week. He won by 18L in a time of 41.25 seconds. It doesn’t matter what box he has here because he has far too much ability for his rivals and will capture another Group 1 feature. We are more interested in trying to find a placegetter and I really like local greyhound Reidy’s Runner for trainer Christine Bennett. He was a 7.5L winner over Barcali in 42.01 and has won six of 12 over track and distance. Box two looks excellent and he has very strong place claims.

$1.70
Race 4
Happy to back two dogs in this race. The first is Banjo’s Girl from box two. She has only had four starts for two wins, including a last-start 21.90. No other rival has broken 22 seconds over track and distance which bodes well. She recorded a 6.56 first split which would see her cross Kabuki Girl at the start, and if she finds the rail, I expect her to lead all the way. Her other winning time is 22.02 which is once again faster than her opposition. The other greyhound that interests me is Western Ripple at double figures. She recorded a 22.17 when winning from box six last start. If she gets some luck in running, she can go close at a price.
Value: Western Ripple $11
Race 6 - Group 1 Perth Cup
The Group 1 Perth Cup (520m) will see the winner take home $150,000 in prize money. Victorian greyhound Orson Allen draws box seven, however, I don’t expect it to trouble him after his 29.32 heat run. He was only half a length from breaking the track record and showed excellent speed at box rise with a 5.38 first section. A winner at 24 of 48 starts, Orson Allen has shown his class over east and he looks hard to stop in the west. The price is very backable about the best dog in the race and he should take some beating. Hasten Slowly, Dyna Patty, Campini and West On Augie are the key runners in the race and the Perth Cup certainly has depth.
