BBL14 The Qualifier - Hurricanes vs Sixers Betting Tips
Ninja Stadium, Tuesday 21st January, 7.30pm (AEDT)
Hobart
The Cane Train finished atop the BBL14 table with a 7-2 record throughout the regular season. They finished their season with a loss to the Stars, but we won’t take a lot from that given Melbourne were playing for their survival whereas the Hurricanes already had top spot locked up. The loss snapped a seven game winning streak for the Canes, one that they will be keen to bounce back from at home on Tuesday night.
The 14-man squad for the qualifier is yet to be released, but with key internationals in Shai Hope and Waqar Salamkheil already departed for the ILT20, I don’t expect the Canes to be making too many audacious changes ahead of the final. Look for them to go relatively unchanged from the Stars game.
Predicted XI: Caleb Jewell, Mitchell Owen, Charlie Wakim, Ben McDermott, Nikhil Chaudhary, Matthew Wade, Tim David, Chris Jordan, Cameron Gannon, Nathan Ellis, Marcus Bean
Sixers
The Sixers finished 2nd on BBl14 table with a 62 record, having one extra washed out game than the Hurricanes, and thus forfeiting their chance to win the home final. Their final completed game of the season was a nail biting win over the Strikers, chasing down 182 seven wickets down with just one ball remaining.
There will be some big changes at the selection table for the Sixers, who will now lose Steve Smith after his brief two game cameo in the BBL yielded scores of 121* and 52. Daniel Hughes has been waiting in the wings for the majority of the season and seems the likely replacement for Smith here.
Predicted XI: Daniel Hughes, Josh Philippe, Jack Edwards, Moises Henriques, Jordan Silk, Lachlan Shaw, Ben Dwarshuis, Hayden Kerr, Sean Abbott, Jafar Chohan, Todd Murphy
Prediction
The Sixers are winners. It’s what they do. They have made the Grand Final in four of the past five seasons, while the Hurricanes don’t have a lot of finals experience. The Sixers have a winning record against five of the seven BBL sides throughout the course of the league. The only two teams they don’t have the wood over are the Perth Scorchers, and the Hobart Hurricanes.
Despite their lack of finals experience, I think this is time for the Hurricanes. Their batting line-up is filled with match winners from top to bottom and they have one of the best T20 bowlers in the world at the moment in Nathan Ellis leading their attack. Back them to win in front of what will be a raucous Hobart crowd here.

Like Nathan Ellis to take 2+ wickets here at healthy odds of $2.20. He took three wickets in the Canes win over the Heat back on the 16th and another one in the loss to the Stars on Sunday night.
He has 38 wickets in 29 games at Bellerive over the course of his BBL career, all at a fantastic economy rate of 7.69.
