BBL13 Sixers vs Thunder Betting Tips
Sydney Cricket Ground, Friday 12th January, 7.15pm
Sixers
The Sixers sit in third place on the BBL table through eight games played so far. They have won four, with two losses and two non-results, with their most recent game being a solid win over the Melbourne Stars back on the 6th of January.
Bowling first, the Sixers kept the Stars to just 156/4 on the back of some economical bowling, particularly from Todd Murphy, who took 2/15 off his four overs. Both Tom Curran and Ben Dwarshuis also chipped in with one wicket apiece.
With the bat, it was James Vince who steered the ship for the Sixers, blasting 79 off just 57 balls while Daniel Huges added 41 to help the Sixers chase the total three wickets down with 11 balls to spare.
Predicted Sixers XI: Josh Philippe, James Vince, Steve Smith, Moises Henriques, Jordan Silk, Tom Curran, Jack Edwards, Sean Abbott, Ben Dwarshuis, Jackson Bird, Steve O’Keefe
Thunder
The Thunder have lost their last two games on the spin to fall to 7th place on the BBL table. They were comfortably defeated by the Scorchers in their last game to the tune of seven wickets, but will get some much needed reinforcement for this game with David Warner set to suit up in the lime green for the first time since January 2023.
The Thunder don’t have a lot left to play for in the 2023-24 season, as they currently sit three games plus percentage outside of the top four with just three games to play. Bragging rights over their cross town rivals will at least be enough to get them up for this game though.
Predicted Thunder XI: David Warner, Alex Hales, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Cameron Bancroft, Oliver Davies, Alex Ross, Daniel Sams, Nathan McAndrew, Chris Green, Gurinder Sandhu, Tanveer Sangha
Betting Tips
Have to side with the Sydney Sixers here. The Thunder have looked terribly out of form and although they get David Warner back in the side for this game, it’s probably a wash as their counterparts will likely have Steve Smith making his BBL13 debut.
The Sixers bat deep and their bowling is just as good, back them to get the chocolates here at the SCG, where they have won eight of their last 12 games.
Same Game Multi
Jackson Bird is the leading Sixers wicket-taker this season, claiming eight scalps through five games so far this season. He has taken 2+ in each of his last three games and represents good value to do so again here after taking 2/28 against the Thunder earlier this season.
Pairing that with Steve Smith to score 20+ runs. The Test star is one of the few players who has recent time in the middle at the SCG, having scored 38 in the first innings of the New Years test. Played five games for the Sixers last season, smashing scores of 36, 101, 125, 66 and 18.
Jackson Bird 2+ Wickets
Steve Smith 25+ Runs
