Australia vs Pakistan: 2nd T20I Preview & Betting Tips
SCG, Saturday 16th November, 7:00pm AEDT
Australia
Squad: Josh Inglis, Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Aaron Hardie, Spencer Johnson, Glenn Maxwell, Josh Philippe, Matthew Short, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa
Glenn Maxwell sparked Australia to a comfortable victory in a seven over game at the Gabba. Elevated to number three, Maxwell blasted 43 off 19 with 5 fours and 3 sixes, to take Australia from 1/16 to 3/66 inside of 6 overs. Marcus Stoinis then finished the innings brilliantly for Australia, taking 20 off the final over to power Australia to 4/93 off 7 overs.
Australia’s bowlers back up their batsmen with Nathan Ellis (3/9) and Xavier Bartlett (3/13) making excellent returns from injury. Adam Zampa closed out with two wickets from the final two balls to finish with 2/11. The Australians bowled to the expanses of the Gabba brilliantly, bowling back of a length and into the wicket consistently.
The seven over affair suited Australia’s batsmen, who will be looking to keep their aggressive brand going in Sydney. Although you can’t make a fair judgement on a seven over per side, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matt Short need to make runs.
Pakistan
Squad: Mohammad Rizwan, Abbas Afridi, Agha Salman, Arafat Minhas, Babar Azam, Haris Rauf, Haseebullah Khan, Irfan Khan, Jahandad Khan, Naseem Shah, Omair Yousuf, Sahibzada Farhan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Sufiyan Muqeem, Usman Khan
It was a tough outing for Pakistan on Thursday, the first time on the tour that they’ve been completely outplayed for the duration of a match. Pakistan’s bowlers got in terribly wrong, bowling too full and exposing themselves to the short straight boundaries at the Gabba, which Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis took full advantage of.
Abbas Afridi bowled an excellent 6th over taking 2/9, however the rest of the bowlers struggled with Naseem Shah (18.5), Shaheen Shah Afridi (12.5) and Haris Raud (10.5) going at massive economy rates.
The tourists never got going with the bat, falling to 6/24 in the 3rd over of a chase that required them to go at more than 13 runs an over. The top six batsmen for Pakistan all failed to reach double figures, with tail ender Abbas Afridi top scoring with an unbeaten 20.
Match Prediction: Although not much can really be taken from a 7/7, it’s clear Australia’s squad is well suited to the shortest form of the game. They have specialists with both bat and ball that play their roles exceptionally well, which has seen the Aussies win 13 of their last 15 T20 Internationals.
Australia have won three of their last four T20I’s at the SCG, and have won all four completed T20I fixtures against Pakistan in Australia. Pakistan have now lost five of their last seven T20I’s and face a tough challenge to turn things around on a Sydney surface that likely won’t offer much for their pace attack. Australia will continue their strong form in the shortest format and clinch the series on Saturday night.

Xavier Bartlett produced an excellent return to Australian colours on Thursday night, continuing the outstanding start to his international career he has had. In five T20I’s Bartlett has taken 2/37, 2/23, 1/20, 1/26 and 3/13. In two ODI’s Bartlett has taken 4/17 and 4/21. The Queenslander is not only a prospect for the future, he’s a prospect for the now, and is thriving at the international level.
