ATP Hong Kong Outright Preview
It’s not quite as strong of a field as we see in Brisbane and the United Cup, however this is still a pretty competitive field at the Bank of China Hong Kong Tennis Open. Let’s take a look at each quarter.
Andrey Rublev is at the top of the draw, is the defending champion, and is also at the top of the market. Rublev doesn’t make tennis enjoyable to watch at times, given his demeanour on court, however he does still need to be respected, as shown by his outright odds. There are some interesting players in the quarter, but nobody is standing out to me in terms of their outright odds. I may keep an eye on Roman Safiullin.
It's Karen Khachanov and Brandon Nakashima as the seeds in the second quarter. It appears that the Russian may have the tougher second round match, due to face the winner of Denis Shapovalov and Kei Nishikori. I was quite impressed by the level from Brandon Nakashima in 2024, and I do think his current outright odds appear to be a touch long based on his form.
Of the players at the top of the market, the one that caught my eye was the number 4 seed Arthur Fils. I have incredibly high hopes for Fils this year, though with that being said, I don’t quite feel as though I want to jump into the $6 that is currently on offer. The player I am most interested to monitor in this section is Zizou Bergs, who makes his way into the draw as a wildcard and is one to watch.
The final quarter is led by number 2 seed Lorenzo Musetti, who put together a very solid 2024 campaign and is second favourite in outright markets. Although his first match should be reasonable comfortable, however a potential quarter final against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, and a semi final with Fils, so the $10 looks decent with a first round bye in hand, but I won’t be going too hard here in the first week of the season.
It's a fascinating draw, and my preference is with Nakashima at $19 in the top half and Musetti at $10 in the bottom half.
