Footy is just around the corner, with the 2019 AFL season set to kick off on Thursday, the 21st of March with a blockbuster clash between the Blues and Tigers at the MCG!
So you're about to pick a SuperCoach side? Before you lock anything in, read through my top five SuperCoach must-dos to give yourself the best shot at glory this season.
Top Five SuperCoach Tips
1- Build your team around proven scorers
The top scorers are expensive! But they're expensive for a reason. It's ok to splurge on a few players because the salary cap of $1,000,000 goes a long way.
Don't let the high price tags put you off the likes of Max Gawn, Jackson Macrae and Patrick Dangerfield. You've got to pick these guys, mainly because they provide the best captaincy selections.
You only get one player who scores double each week, so it may as well be the highest scoring player out there.
2 - Don't be afraid to start with rookies on the field
It can be daunting start with four, five or six rookies you've never seen play before on your field, but it's a necessity of playing SuperCoach!
Newer coaches can fall into the trap of picking lock-down defenders like Will Schofield or Dylan Grimes because of their cheap price tags. Don't do it!
There are lots of players under $150,000 who will score just as well as those guys and make you plenty of money at the same time.
3 - Do your research!
There are many tools you can use to increase your SuperCoach capability, including pouring through stats sheets, reading fantasy footy publications and seeking out advice websites and forums. But the best thing to do is to watch as much footy as possible! As you learn the roles of the players and what style of player scores well, things will begin to make a lot more sense.
4 - Treat your trades like gold
Unlike other versions of fantasy footy, you only have a limited amount of trades to use in SuperCoach.
Prior to lockout on Thursday night, March 21, you can chop and change your squad as much as your heart desires.
However once round one is complete, you only have 30 further changes you can make to your squad, for the entire season!
So obviously, you don't want to waste them.
Another pointer to be aware of is SuperCoach's rolling lockout. With a traditional lockout, you are prohibited from making changes to your team over the weekend, but with a rolling lockout, you can continue to adjust your team while the games are being played.
5 - Enter a league with lots of friends and family
The best thing about SuperCoach, by far, is the bragging rights. There might be no better feeling than rocking up to work, school or other social outing on a Monday after a big win against one of your mates. So while dominating a few public leagues is good too, nothing beats securing the W against those friends of yours that talk a big game.
Good luck and have fun!
