It's a year late, but the Ryder Cup will finally take place this weekend as the United States and Europe square off from Whistling Straits Golf Course in Wisconsin. We have you covered with a full preview and betting tips for the event below!
2021 Ryder Cup Betting Tips
Friday-Sunday, Whistling Straits, Wisconsin
Europe has been abaolsutley dominant in the Ryder Cup's recent history, winning seven of the last nine overall events, including the most recent, 2018 in France. As always, they will start as underdogs but will hope to cause yet another upset, this time on American soil starting Friday night (AEST).
The Teams
USA
USA Team: Collin Morikawa, Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay, Tony Finau, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, Harris English, Daniel Berger, Scottie Scheffler.
It's no wonder that the United States come into this match as red-hot favourites. They boast 9 of the top 11 ranked players in the world on their squad, and their captains picks are a mix of players suited specifically to the course as well as some of the most in-form players in the world.
Led by the likes of Dustin Johnson, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, Bryson DeChambeau and recent Fed-Ex Cup Champion Patrick Cantlay, the U.S. boast a star studded line-up, but in the past, that has rarely been the deciding factor.
Europe
Europe Team: Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Paul Casey, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Tyrrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood, Viktor Hovland, Lee Westwood, Bernd Wiesberger, Sergia Garcia, Ian Poulter, Shane Lowry.
Not to be outdone, there is no doubt the Europeans have some star talent on their roster. They boast the current No.1 ranked player in the world in Jon Rahm, who is in some fantastic form at the moment, as well as other top 20 players in Rory McIlroy, Viktor Hovland and Tyrrell Hatton.
The Europeans, outside of their automatic qualification process, have traditionally done things a little differently. Two of their captains picks this year in Sergio Garcia and Ian Poulter might not be in the best form at the moment, but their record in international play and their commitment to the Ryder Cup is unquestionable.
Betting Tips
I can't get enough of the Europeans value here. Sure, Whistling Straits will be set up to be a bit of a bombers course this week, which should suit the Americans more, but there is just something about Team Europe when it comes to the Ryder Cup.
For a lot of the Americans, this is just another tournament and one that doesn't pay well at all. For the Europeans though, the Ryder Cup is the biggest thing in golf. They are taught from a young age by greats of the game in Seve Ballesteros that beating America means everything, which is why you see the likes of Ian Poulter and Sergio Garcia picked for the team year in and year out.
Make no mistake, the European team has real star power, they just lack in world ranking points as a lot of their players choose to play on the European Tour, where ranking points aren't as valuable. Love the value of them here.
