A-League Round 23 Betting Tips
Sydney FC vs Perth Glory
Saturday, 5:00 PM AEDT
Sydney FC bounced back from a rare loss against the Wanderers to absolutely punish their old rivals in Melbourne Victory last weekend. They champs were far too good en route to a 4-1 score line and boy were they happy with themselves. Sydney are now 10 points ahead of the second placed Melbourne City despite playing two less matches.
Perth Glory played their part in a five goal thriller against Melbourne City last weekend, but unfortunately form them they ended up on the wrong side of a 3-2 score line. Glory trailed by three at the main break and looked a real chance to draw level after two quick second half goals, but it simply wasn’t to be. Glory have now slipped down to fourth spot on the ladder.
Glory’s red hot form looks to have turned lukewarm, which isn’t going to cut it when they travel to Sydney. The defending champs have only lost twice this campaign, both of which came against the Wanderers, and we don’t expect that tally to increase this weekend. Sydney at home look like a safe play to tick over the bankroll.
Melbourne City vs Western Sydney Wanderers
Saturday, 7:30 PM AEDT
As mentioned above, Melbourne City were winners of a five goal thriller in Perth last weekend, so it’s fair to say that confidence will be at an all-time high. That win followed up a 1-0 win over Roar in the week prior, which now makes it three wins from their past four league matches. This recent run has seen City climb into second spot on the ladder where they’re every chance of staying if they continue this current trend.
The Wanderers looked like they were making a mid-season resurgence with three wins from four games heading into last weekend; however, they were no match for Roar in Brisbane, going down by two goals in a lacklustre performance. The Wanderers have now slipped to eighth spot on the table and will find it hard to get back into the top six with limited matches remaining.
Melbourne City are by far the better team in this matchup and the home ground advantage only increases their chances of winning. In saying that, the Wanderers have been able to cause the odd upset this season, so they’ll take a tiny bit of confidence from that. Regardless, we’re pretty comfortable to be siding with City as the odds-on favourites this weekend.
Wellington Phoenix vs Melbourne Victory
Sunday, 4:20 PM AEDT
Wellington Phoenix resumed from their scheduled bye in style by putting the Mariners to the sword to the tune of 3-1. That win made it an ultra-impressive seven wins from their past nine league matches in what has been a fantastic rise from the lows of last season. This huge run of form has seen them jump into third spot on the ladder and just two points behind City in second.
Melbourne Victory had the chance to build on their win over City with another big scalp when they took on Sydney last weekend. Victory got off to a flier with a goal in the first five minutes via Marco Rojas; however, it was all Sydney from that point onwards as Victory ended up losing 1-4 on their home deck. Victory’s season is now all but over unless they can come up with a miracle.
Wellington are by far the form team in this matchup and will be eager to continue to tick over the win column to secure a home final. After last weekend’s loss to Sydney, we don’t expect Victory to show too much resistance on the road here, so we’re very keen on backing in Phoenix to get the job done.
