A-League Betting Tips
Melbourne City vs Western United
Wednesday August 26th, 5pm (AEST)
Melbourne City have had the added benefit of some extra rest after progressing straight through to the semi-finals on the back of a top two league finish. They’ve been one of most consistent teams this season since week one and must be full of confidence coming into this finals campaign. City’s attack has been the equal most lethal in the competition with Sydney, thanks to Jamie Maclaren who slotted 22 goals to win the Golden Boot.
No one was quite sure what to expect from Western United in their inaugural A-League campaign, but it’s fair to say they’ve been nothing short of exceptional. They started off the regular season well and finished it off even better, and now find themselves in the final four thanks to their 1-0 elimination final win over Brisbane. United have also been strong in attack this season to amass the third most goals scored, led by 19 from Besart Berisha.
These new Melbourne rivals played each other three times during the season and the experienced Melbourne City got the chocolates on each occasion. City were 3-1 winners over United just last week and have now banged in eight goals in three games against them. While United have been great in their first season in the competition, City look extremely hard to beat here and we really like them at the $2 quote.
Sydney FC vs Perth Glory
Wednesday August 26th, 8:10pm (AEST)
Sydney FC finished the season on top of the ladder to progress straight through to this semi-finals clash with Perth. The Sky Blues were last season’s title winners and showed absolutely no sign of a hangover at the start of this campaign. That said, they’ve been really poor since returning from the hiatus and wrapping up top spot on the ladder, perhaps due to a bit of complacency.
A finals berth looked in doubt for Perth Glory when they secured just one win from their first seven games this season. However, they managed to tick off a stack of wins on the trot from that point onwards, and were playing much more like the Glory team of ‘18-19 that finished well clear on top of the table. Perth proved too good for Phoenix in their elimination final on the weekend to advance to the final four and set up a Grand Final rematch from 2019.
What a huge match we have on our hands in this second semi-final. Last year’s Grand Final was decided in a penalty shoot-out, so these clubs have set the bar very high and we’re expecting an entertaining affair! That said, both of these clubs have struggled for form since returning from the long break, so we might not see the highest of quality right at the start of the match. Once they hit their straps and find their rhythm, we expect Sydney FC to be on the ones doing all of the attacking and winning this clash as a result. They’ve been the clear best team all season and we don’t see them letting this opportunity slip.
