It’s great to have the 2019-20 A-League season back up and running, especially with games being played nearly every day of the week! We continue our coverage of the A-League here with previews and betting tips from the games being played from Monday-Friday this week. Check out our plays below and good luck to everyone following!
A-League Mon-Fri Matches
Sydney FC vs Newcastle Jets
Nestrata Jubilee Stadium (NSW), Monday 7:30pm AEST
Sydney FC picked up where they left off with a thrilling 3-1 win against Wellington. They trailed 1-0 with 15 minutes remaining but were able to bang in three unanswered goals to stay well clear at the top of the table.
Newcastle will be hoping to recapture the form they showed prior to the pause where they had won three of their last four games and were on the march up the ladder. They still have it all to do if they’re to clinch an unlikely finals berth as they currently sit six points outside the top six.
Sydney FC are the reigning champs for a reason and have the luxury of playing all remaining games in their home state this season. Their +28 goal difference is more than double the next best in the comp, which shows how dominant they can be when they’re on song. With a game already under their belt, we expect them to be too sharp for the Jets here.
Perth Glory vs Wellington Phoenix
Bankwest Stadium (NSW), Tuesday 7:30pm AEST
Perth Glory got their season back up and running with a workmanlike 1-0 win over the Mariners. It wasn’t a vintage Glory performance but securing the three points is all that matters in this weird and whacky season. Last season’s Grand Finalists are now 5th on the table but are just five points behind second with two games in hand.
Wellington Phoenix looked on their way to a huge road victory over Sydney in the restart opener when they led 1-0 late in the piece. They capitulated late however, losing 3-1 to add another bad result to their already poor road record (3-2-5).
This is a fantastic match we have on our hands between two clubs we expect to finish in the top four. That said, Glory have the better form away from their home state of the two clubs and already have a win under their belt since the restart. At near $3 odds, they look the better play here.
Central Coast Mariners vs Newcastle Jets
Central Coast Stadium (NSW), Friday 7:30pm AEST
The Mariners were decent against Glory in their first game back but still couldn’t get anything out of it. They’ve now won just seven of their past 50 games in the A-League and are well and truly out of the finals race this season.
The Jets were in fantastic form prior to the season suspension and will still feel they’re a big chance to sneak in the top six should they recapture that form. They’ll need a big finish and wins against lowly sides like the Mariners are an absolute must.
The Jets will be playing their second game in four days when they face the Mariners, which is obviously a bit of a disadvantage. However, they still have it all to play for this season and have shown a much higher ceiling than the Mariners. It’s not the sexiest fixture on this week, but the Jets should get your favouritism on Friday night.
