We are back this week with another AFL Fantasy team of the week for the Saturday slate of games. This week features our first five game Saturday slate with the lack of a Thrusday game, so there’s plenty of players to pick from. We’ll be making a team for the $5k Moneyball tournament this week, which is set to be a popular one! There is also some great tournaments at PlayON this weekend as well! So make sure you check out all of your options before entering a squad.
Defenders: Rory Laird, Michael Hibberd
Rory Laird is the best scoring defender in all of fantasy at the moment and should have an absolute field day against the Saints on the weekend. He has an average of 132.5 points through his first two games and has racked up 40 disposals in both of them so far. Hibberd has had a rough start to the year but has a good matchup this weekend against the Roos. Averages just 62.5 over his first two games but has the potential to be a 100+ scorer off half back and pickings are quite slim in defence, especially because we don’t want to touch the GWS vs Sydney game.
Midfielders: Nat Fyfe, Nick Holman, David Swallow, Nicholas Coffield
Fyfe is our point of difference in the midfield this week. While most people will go with an ultra-premium in the likes of Zorko, Kelly, Sloane or Kennedy, we really like the cheaper option of Fyfe this week, who gets a ‘home game’ against Gold Coast. The Suns are Fyfe’s favourite team to score against, he averages 124 in his last three games against them.
Swallow has been fantastic so far this season with scores of 111 and 107 in his first two games. The departure of Gary Ablett has left a gaping hole in the Suns midfield, that has been filled by Swallow. Should continue to score well.
Coffield and Holman are the value picks in the midfield. Holman has been the standout rookie of 2018 so far with scores of 84 and 89 in his first two games. Has proven himself now and will continue to get plenty of time in the midfield. Coffield lines up for his first game for the Saints on Saturday and while it could be a bit of a risky pick, we think his run and carry of half back and his good kicking skills are prone to good fantasy scores.
Forwards: Robbie Gray, Bayley Fritsch
Robbie Gray returned to the Power line-up against Sydney on the weekend and had a massive 119 points. Was a tackling machine with 10 in the tightly contested battle but we think he’ll score more through marks and goals this weekend as the Power should win comfortably over Brisbane.
Fritsch has been one of the best scoring forward rookies in the competition with a 74 and a 60 in the opening rounds. If we can get similar production from him this Saturday with just a $3,500 price tag, it will be great value.
Ruck: Sam Jacobs
Arguably the best hit-out ruckman in the league, Jacobs could break the hit-out record this weekend as the Saints trot out 22-year-old and natural forward Rowan Marshall to start in the ruck. Marshall has played just one game and has a light frame, should get monstered by Sam Jacobs.
