Melbourne Victory vs Wellington Phoenix (Friday 7:50pm AEDT)
The first game we’ve taken an interest in is the Friday night fixture between Melbourne Victory and Wellington Phoenix. This is the first of three meetings between these teams this side, with the next two set to come in the new year.
Melbourne Victory’s six game winning streak was snapped last weekend when they drew with Melbourne City in the Derby. Victory looked set to snag all three points for the seventh consecutive week, but ended up being denied by a 92nd minute equaliser. Despite leaving two points out there, Victory are still in second position on the table and just one points behind Perth Glory.
Wellington Phoenix continued their hot run of form last weekend with another win. This time it was Brisbane Roar who were their victims, as Phoenix piled on four goals to one. They’re now winners in each of their last three games and are into fifth spot on the ladder.
Both teams come into this in some really good form, with Victory unbeaten in their last seven and Phoenix in their last four. We’re surprised to see Phoenix at such long odds here and are obliged to take them with the double chance at juicy odds.
Sydney FC vs Brisbane Roar (Saturday 7:50pm AEDT)
The second game we’ve found value in features Sydney FC hosting Brisbane Roar on Saturday night at 7:50pm (AEDT). Again, this is the first meeting between these teams this season, with two to come in the near future.
Sydney FC look to have hit their straps and are coming off a really impressive win over Perth Glory last weekend. They defeated the ladder-leading Glory by two goals to one, which was their first loss of the season. Sydney are still in third position on the ladder, but are now just three points off top spot.
Meanwhile, Brisbane Roar’s season keeps going from bad to worse, as they suffered yet another loss in their most recent fixture against Wellington Phoenix. The 4-1 loss was their fourth consecutive defeat and the second time in as many weeks conceding four goals. They’re now in second last position with just one win from nine games.
Considering the form and talent discrepancy between these teams, we’re surprised that Sydney aren’t a lot shorter odds at home. We’re confident they take care of business here and win comfortably.
Western Sydney Wanderers vs Melbourne City (Tuesday 7:50pm AEDT)
The third and final game we’ve found value in is Western Sydney Wanderers vs Melbourne City, which will be the first game of 2019. These teams are yet to face off this season and will play all three fixtures in 2019.
The Wanderers were able to claim a decent point on their travels to Adelaide last weekend, as they equalised through Bruce Kamau in the 61st minute to make it 2-2. However, draws aren’t going to get the job done in the long run, as they’re now in third last position on the table.
As mentioned above, Melbourne City were lucky to escape the Melbourne Derby with a point after equalising in the 92nd minute through Dario Vidosic. It must be said that they probably deserved at least a point with their performance though, which kept them in the top four on the ladder with a 4-2-3 record.
The Wanderers have managed just four points from four home games this season, while Melbourne City are one of the better away teams in the league. With that in mind, as well as the form of both teams, we’re going to be taking City to win this at really nice odds.
