Unfortunately, we hit on just 1/3 bets in last week’s A-League tips! It ends a profitable run of betting tips in Australia’s top-flight soccer, one that we’ll be looking to regain this week as we take a look at the Round 25 action kicking off Thursday night.
A-League Week 25 Betting Tips
Perth Glory vs Sydney FC (Thursday 9.30pm AEDT)
Special Thursday night clash to get us started this week with the public holiday on Friday. Late start time as it’s in Perth but should be a great clash as the Glory look to keep pressure on the top six. They are currently in 8th position but sit just one point behind Western Sydney in 6th and will be desperate for a win here to leapfrog into the finals hunt.
Sydney FC’s minor premiership defence was in danger for all of one week, after the Sky Blues loss to Brisbane two weeks ago, Newcastle trailed by just five points. However, a loss for Newcastle and an impressive Sydney win over Central Coast Mariners all but sealed the minor premiership for Sydney, now leading by eight points with just three rounds to play.
Should be a tough game for Sydney over in Perth Thursday night. They’ve shown over the past month or so that they aren’t as invincible as they were this time last year. With losses to Newcastle, Brisbane and Kashima Antlers in their last five games, we think the Sky Blues are vulnerable here and at $3.60 Perth are great value.
TIP: Double chance (Perth and win) - $1.83 at Sportsbet
Melbourne Victory vs Western Sydney Wanderers (Saturday 7.50pm AEDT)
Melbourne Victory weren’t able to get the job done in Week 24, going down 1-0 to Perth over in WA. They’ll welcome the return to AAMI Park this weekend, where they host the Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday night. With the loss last week, they relinquished third spot on the table to their cross-town rivals.
Western Sydney will be in Melbourne for their second weekend in a row in Week 25 as they faced Melbourne City last weekend, going down 3-0 at AAMI Park on Saturday night. They will be absolutely desperate for a win this week, as they sit just one point clear of Brisbane and Perth inside the top six, and a loss here would likely see them out of the six.
Melbourne start as $1.72 favourites here and after WSW’s performance in Melbourne last weekend, its hard to find an avenue to victory for them here. The Victory are undefeated in their last seven against the Wanderers, winning four of them, and we think they add another win here.
TIP: Melbourne Victory to win - $1.72 at Sportsbet
Newcastle Jets vs Melbourne City (Sunday 5pm AEDT)
Top of the table clash here as 2nd plays 3rd on Sunday afternoon. The Newcastle Jets will host Melbourne City in a massive clash that should shape the seedings heading into finals. Newcastle are currently locked into 2nd place on the table, but a win here for Melbourne City would pull them further away from Melbourne Victory in a hope to secure that third place on the ladder.
Newcastle are coming off a disappointing 5-2 loss to Adelaide last weekend, when their minor premiership window was slightly open. They’ll be content with second place, however, as it means a week off in the first round of finals and a home game in the second round.
Newcastle start as $2.25 favourites here, but sitting 8 points behind Sydney in first place and 10 points ahead of Melbourne in third, they don’t have much to play for in the run home, so we think they could potentially start easing their foot off the pedal. We think Melbourne City are great value here.
TIP: Melbourne City (draw no bet) - $2.10 at Ladbrokes
