2016 NFL: Week 14 Preview & Betting Tips

December 8th 2016, 2:21pm, By: Johnny Houston

There are plenty of exciting matchups in Week 14 of the NFL season. It all begins with the Oakland Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday Night Football.

NFL Week 14 Betting Tips

Oakland Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs (Friday 9th December 12:25pm)

Thursday Night Football will be the best game of the week. The Kansas City Chiefs will host division rivals the Oakland Raiders in what should be a very cold night at Arrowhead Stadium. These are the two best teams in the AFC West and this game might very well decide home field in the playoffs.

Earlier in the season the Chiefs beat the Raiders by controlling the time of possession (36 mins to 23 mins) and running the football. The Chiefs rushed for 183 yards that game and they will need to stick to the same formula on Thursday night.

Keeping the ball out of Derek Carr’s hands is a must. Especially in the fourth quarter. He leads the league in fourth quarter comebacks. In this situation, I believe Chiefs head coach Andy Reid will have the right game plan to beat the Raiders. I’m predicting a very close low (ish) scoring game.

Prediction: Oakland 20 Kansas City 21
Tip: Kansas City to win & Under 47.5 points - $2.80 at Sportsbet

Washington Redskins at Philadelphia Eagles (Monday 12th December 5:00am)

The bottom half of the NFC East will battle it out at Lincoln Financial Field. Where the Philadelphia Eagles will host the Washington Redskins. Both teams are on a losing streak but it feels like the Eagles have checked out this season. On the other hand, the Redskins are still in the wildcard hunt. Just half a game behind Tampa Bay.

At this point in time I much prefer the quarterback play of Kirk Cousins over rookie Carson Wentz. Cousins is putting up monster numbers this season. He has over 3800 passing yards and 21 touchdowns. The Redskins are averaging 418 total yards of offense a game (ranked 2nd).

Over the last three weeks the Eagles are allowing the opposing quarterback to do whatever they want. Quarterbacks are averaging 118.6 passer rating against the Eagles (league-worst). The potency of the Redskins offense will be too much for the Eagles to match.

Prediction: Washington 35 Philadelphia 17
Tip: Washington Redskins 14+ points - $6.45 at Sportsbet

Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants (Monday 12th December 12:30pm)

How bout dem Cowboys!

On Sunday night, the New York Giants will host the Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium. After suffering a week 1 loss to the Giants. The Cowboys have been on an 11-game winning streak. Unbelievably they have done all this with a rookie quarterback and rookie running back. Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliot are not just rookie of the year candidates, they are also right in the MVP discussion.

The most impressive thing about Dak is his decision making. He is showing poise way beyond his years. He has 19 touchdowns and just TWO interceptions this season. In the week 1 loss to New York Ezekiel Elliot was held to just 51 yards. Since then he has averaged 107.1 yards per game and leads the league in rushing with 1285 total yards.

This is a great opportunity for Dallas to get revenge. I think they will expose just how vulnerable and mediocre New York really are.

Prediction: Dallas 27 New York 17
Tip: Dallas Cowboys at the line (-3.0) - $1.83 at Sportsbet

Baltimore Ravens at New England Patriots (Tuesday 13th December 12:30pm)

Monday Night Football will be an exciting matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and the New England Patriots. It will be cold and wet at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough but that won’t worry either team’s veteran quarterbacks.

One thing that is a concern for the Patriots is the loss of Rob Gronkowski and Danny Amendola. Gronk will be out for the season after back surgery and Amendola won’t return until the playoffs. This leaves the Patriots roster very thin at the receiver position. They still have Edelman, Bennett, Hogan and Mitchell to get by, but anymore injuries could be devastating. This week will be a good test against a Ravens defense that is flying under the radar.

Teams might want to start paying attention to this Ravens defense. They allow just 296 yards of total offense a game (ranked 1st) they don’t allow you to run the ball (73.8 yards ranked 1st) and putting a big score up on them isn’t likely (allowing 17.3 ppg ranked 2nd). Baltimore is currently tied with Pittsburgh in the AFC North at 7-5.

The line doesn’t seem right. It may be slightly inflated due to the popularity of the Patriots/MNF. Baltimore is a playoff calibre team and seven points is very generous. Take the Points.

Prediction: Baltimore 21 New England 24
Tip: Baltimore Ravens at the line (+7.0) - $1.94 at Sportsbet
