2014 NFL – Week 4 Preview and Betting Picks

Week 4 of the NFL kicks off with a “Thursday Night Football” rumble in the jungle between New York Giants and the Washington Redskins. If you followed last week, we started with a bang as our max 3 star free pick cashed thanks to the high flying Atlanta Falcons. The line seemed way off and we exploited it. If Carolina pulled their weight in front of a home crowd we would have gone a perfect 5/5 but we settled on 4/5 winners.

You can check out my year-to-date free pick NFL results here. For now, let’s see if we can find some more winners in our 2014 NFL Week 4 preview and betting picks! As usual, I will be offering picks on five games this weekend, starting with the Thursday night game and finishing with the big Monday night game.

New York Giants at Washington Redskins (Friday at 10:25am AEST)

This is a very interesting game. The New York Giants are coming off their first win against Houston and the Washington Redskins have found a little something with back up QB Kirk Cousins. When RGIII left the first quarter against the Jaguars, Cousins stepped in and looks like he will seize every moment he can. Washington lost a very gritty game to Philadelphia by a field goal and Cousins did everything he could throwing for 427 yards with 3 TD’s. I’m going to go ahead and say I prefer Washington with Cousins.

This line opened at -6.0 Washington and got smashed into -3.0 with what looks like a lot of Public money for the Giants. I’ll say it again - Giants stocks seem to be high after a 30-17 win over Houston. I do not agree with this. Rashad Jennings won’t run for another career high 176 yards and Eli Manning does not rank highly on my Quarterback chart. They won this game because Houston’s Ryan Fitzpatrick had an awful day throwing three interceptions and the Giants special team where lucky enough to block a punt.

Washington look like great value at home and they should be doing everything they can this week before a huge round 5 MNF matchup against Seattle.

Tennessee Titans at Indianapolis Colts (Mondat at 3:00am AEST)

Tennessee Titans head over to Lucas Oil Stadium to face Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts started the season with a surprising two loses but may have found something last week defeating Jacksonville 44-17. It looks like they have found a way for the team to play at the same high level their quarter back consistently plays at. Luck spread out the Jacksonville defense completing passes to 9 receivers and also had a great strike rate on play action calls. Luck has such a high football IQ and the he will have to carry the Colts all season because they really don’t have the most talented roster. However, in a quarterback driven league Indianapolis will be dangerous for many years to come.

The Titans starting quarterback Jake Locker is questionable with a wrist injury. He went 17-34 and two INT at 51.5% with a good wrist and their back up does not look up to it. Charlie Whitehurst has only started in four games in his career. Titans have lost the last 5 games to the Colts. The only way I want to remember the titans is if Denzel is coaching them.

Philadelphia Eagles at San Francisco 49ers (Monday at 6:25am AEST)

Philadelphia remain one of the three undefeated teams but are coming away with wins by the skin of their teeth and now the win last week against Washington doesn’t look all that impressive considering Washington’s performance on Friday.

The 49ers have once again started the season 1-2 and have not been running out games at all, being outscored 52-3 in the second half. This is a line in the sand situation. The 49ers should be able to take advantage of a bruised up Eagles O-Line. Coach Harbaugh is desperate to turn things around as his contract negotiations have been tabled until the end of the season. This line looks fishy giving a 3-0 team five points on the road. I like 49ers to get back on track. 49ers win 35-28

New Orleans Saints at Dallas Cowboys (Monday at 10:30am AEST)

The Dallas Cowboys in a primetime game at home grabbing three points.

Easy pick right?

Wrong!

If this game wasn’t in primetime I would probably more inclined to like Tony Romo and the Cowboys but this is the perfect stage for Romo and the Cowboys to embarrass themselves like they have done in the past. I believe the Saints get it done here but also believe it will be a high scoring game. New Orleans are ranked 23rd in total yards allowed and Dallas are 16th. Yet the Offenses are clicking with New Orleans ranked 4th and Dallas 12th. Although the Saints road record is questionable they have the wood over Dallas at AT&T stadium winning both games by a field goal 30-27 and 34-31.

My official tip is the Saints at the line, but you could definitely consider placing a bet on the Saints head-to-head.

New England Patriots at Kansas City Chiefs (Tuesday at 10:30am AEST)

The New England Patriots head to Arrowhead stadium in Kansas City for a MNF battle. Although things have been a bit off for Tom Brady and his Offense. They needed Vince Willfork’s help to just hold on for a 16-9 victory against Oakland…zzz

The Chiefs are not breaking any records either, tasting victory for the first time last week vs Miami. Knile Davis led the Chiefs with 132 yards and a touchdown.

This is not going to be a spectacular Monday Night Football game. Two Offenses that are struggling ( Patriots ranked 31st in passing yards) but the Defense of the Patriots is often overlooked. They are ranked 1st in total yards and 1st in passing yards. Kansas City also putting in more effort on the defensive side of the ball.

I believe it will be a slow back and forth chess game between Ballicheck and Reid. Taking the Under for 2 Units and also a small play on the Patriots.
