Best of the Big Guns
Cameron Munster (FLB/CTW, $14,900)
Avg: 63.3; Rd 5 Opponent: Knights
The bookies have this match priced at a line of -16.5, and if that’s the case, expect Melbourne to pile on the tries and points. Of all the danger men in the backline, we’ve singled out Munster. A season average of 63 having just 2 tries to his name speaks volumes for how busy this guy is with the ball (tackle breaks and run meters). If there was going to be a game where he posts a mammoth score – then this is it. A potential captain pick that can win you a tournament.
Johnathan Thurston (HFB, $16,300)
Avg: 53.5; Rd 5 Opponent: Dragons
You can see how much that golden point loss to the Broncos means to this team and this man. If it taught us anything, the match showed how far ahead those two teams are currently. The Cowboys will be hungry, dominant and be lead to victory by the best playmaker in rugby league – Thurston. He will score massive this weekend.
Bryce Cartwright (2RF, $14,500)
Avg: 59; Rd 5 Opponent: Eels
After a disappointing score against the Dragons, we see Cartwright bouncing back in a big way this weekend. The Eels don’t concede many points so that should keep the game flowing for good base stats from all forwards. Look for Cartwright to dominate on the edges as offloads are needed to open up the Parra defence.
Shaun Johnson (HFB, $15,400)
Avg: 60.3; Rd 5 Opponent: Roosters
He’s back! That’s the general consensus around the Warriors and their star playmaker Shaun Johnson. The Roosters concede tries on both sides of the park and have the equal worst defence in 2016. The Warriors have seemingly found their groove and will be expected to go back-to-back against such a poor opposition.
Value Picks
Isaac De Gois (HOK, $7,900)
Avg: 42.5; Rd 5 Opponent: Panthers
At under $8,000, he’ll get you 35+ points just from tackles! So if you’re looking for a cheapie pick so you can bolster the rest of your side, then don’t look further than Isaac.
Ben Barba (FLB/FE, $9,900)
Avg: 56.5; Rd 5 Opponent: Tigers
Despite the slight price rise of Barba this week, he still represents tremendous value. He gets involved around the ruck looking for offloads and short balls, and we think this will come into play against the Tigers.
Good luck, NRL fantasy coaches!
