After not having much racing over the last 12 months, horse racing returns to Caulfield this Saturday. There are nine races on the program and the first race gets underway at 11:50am (AEST). The track is currently rated a Soft 6 and an upgrade isn’t to be expected.

Caulfield Racing Tips – Saturday, June 24th 2023
Race 3: Marshall White Handicap - 1pm (AEST)
(2) Va Via Has drawn poorly out there in 11 but this horse does get back anyway and does have fast closing sectionals. She has only won one race from 13 but she has placed twice from 4 attempts on the Soft. Her 5th at Rosehill last time was better than it looked.
(3) Desiah gets a 2 kilogram claim and is capable on rain affected tracks. From a leading stable he has an in-form jockey on top (Pinn). She has had a short spell and a top 3 finish is expected.
(7) Gemstar Is very fit now and from barrier one should be able to position up nice and handy. She won well at Werribee last time and any rain is a positive.
(4) Entremet Will be big odds but has one on the Soft previously. She drops back in distance but she is capable.

Race 5: Lamaro’s Hotel Handicap - 2:10pm (AEST)
(8) Hazel Baby Is very consistent and is very fit And Hefel stays on after running a second at Hillside last start. She has a first and a second to her name on Soft ground and despite her best work being late she might position up around midfield here. At Geelong 2 starts back she settled handy when winning for John Allen. She is versatile and has ran on in her races before too.
(9) Magnaspin Is fitter again after a Flemington 4th last start. Newitt stays on and he gets a better barrier here.
(11) Crown Crusher was pretty good when 5th at Geelong last start and the rise in distance should suit.
(6) Another Ponzi drops a lot of weight for this race and he can position anywhere in the run. Up in class in this.
(8) Hazel Baby - Win

Race 7: Michael Walker Farewell Handicap - 3:25pm (AEST)
(11) All About Eve has won 2 from 4 starts when first up and is down in grade and she has trialed solidly leading into this race. She has won over the distance before and barrier 2 looks ideal. She does get back and will need luck but at the odds she is with a throw at the stumps.
(14) Niccolite goes good on the Soft and knows this track well. She will be double figure odds and she does drop 6kg after winning at Werribee. The Begg stable is in fine form and this one is probably over the odds.
(3) WInning Verse is the likely fav but has drawn wide in 12 for Blake Shinn. She does like Caulfield though.
(5) Invincible Caviar should have trained on after running unplaced at Hillside first up. If the track stays a Soft6 I am confident she runs well, but if it rains overnight and is downgraded then, she may be scratched. Carleen Hefel is on for the first time and the mare is down in class for this one. She has won 4 of 6 and she has won over this distance before.
(5) All About Eve - Win

Race 8: City Index Quality - 4pm (AEST)
(8) Fifth Position has drawn poorly in 12 but he does get back in his races anyway. He will be double figure odds and with his racing pattern it will obviously be tough. In saying that, it was a pretty good effort when 100-1 last time at Hillside, and he does enjoy Soft tracks. He is in a good stable and is fitter for that run. Has won 2 over the 2000m!
(1) Milford loves Caulfield and has drawn the inside which may be an advantage. Won’t want the rain on race morning though.
(4) Normandy Bridge is in fine form and likes Soft tracks. He has been up for a while but is one of the fittest horses in the race.
(5) Deepstrike won well at Hillside on a similar surface last start and has drawn well in 2. Has won at Caulfield.
(8) Fifth Position - E/W
