2015-16 A-League: Round 3 Preview & Betting Tips

October 22nd 2015, 11:04am, By: C.McGregor9

The A-league season is already into it's third week and there are still four sides looking for their first win this weekend! Be sure to read on and check out our A-League Round 3 betting tips.

Newcastle Jets vs Melbourne Victory (Friday 7.40pm AEST)

The Jets suffered a loss in the final minutes against Sydney FC in their last start but there was again positive signs for the team that finished in last place last season. They have another tough ask this weekend as they come up against the defending champions who are fresh off a win in the Melbourne derby, which would have done a lot to kick-start their campaign.

The Victory will be looking to use their width up front before playing balls into the feet of their danger man Besart Berisha. The striker was able to not only get on the scorers sheet but score the winning goal against City as he lived up to his name for being a big game player and reliable when the time comes. The Victory will again earn the three points this weekend.

TIP: HT/FT – Victory/Victory @ $2.62 with Palmerbet

Wellington Phoenix vs Brisbane Roar (Saturday 5.15pm AEST)

The Roar have started their season brilliantly being the only team to pick up the maximum amount of points over the first two rounds. They had a relatively convincing win against the Mariners at home but it will be a much difficult task for them this weekend as they travel to Westpac Stadium to take on the Phoenix who were able to put their goal scoring troubles behind them and get a victory in Perth.

Due to the Roar’s dominance over the entire competition in the past, they have a strong record in Wellington having won five of the 10 matches at the venue. However, the record doesn’t reflect the current situation and the Roar will drop their first points of the season this weekend.

TIP: Phoenix @ $2.50 with WilliamHill

Sydney FC vs Western Sydney Wanderers (Saturday 7.30pm AEST)

The Wanderers showed improvement in their match against Adelaide last weekend and it was ultimately an own goal that let them down as they were forced to snatch a 1-1 draw in the dying minutes. Their attack was lacking to create quality chances but their defence showed drastic improvement. It will need to show further improvement this weekend as it comes up against the strong attacking unit of the Sky Blues.

The Wanderers haven’t secured a victory against their biggest rivals in the past for matches and I expect that to continue with Sydney FC pulling off a narrow victory.

TIP: Sydney FC @ $2.10 with Sportsbet

Melbourne City vs Central Coast Mariners (Sunday 5pm AEST)

It took close to 75 minutes but Melbourne City finally started to stamp themselves in the competition when they were able to grab two quick goals against the premiership favourites and derby rivals Melbourne Victory to level the scores at 2-2. However, they would eventually lose the match in the final minutes. They were the second best team on the day with Victory carving their defence to pieces at times but being able to bounce back shows real character of the side. They are at home against the Mariners who were unable to challenge the Roar at Suncorp in their last start and it should be a similar scenario against a stronger City outfit.

TIP: City @ $1.73 with Crownbet

Perth Glory vs Adelaide United (Sunday 7pm AEST)

The Glory is sitting on the bottom of the ladder as the only side to be pointless after the opening two rounds. Their two losses have been disappointing as they have failed to look dangerous and haven’t been able to contain their opposition.

The Reds were the stronger side against the Wanderers but a defensive lapse at the end of the match cost them from securing all three points, as they had to settle for a draw. The biggest worry for them was their only goal came from a Wanderers own goal and they haven’t been able to find the back of the net in their opening two games. It should be a close match with the Glory wanting to redeem themselves at home.

TIP: Draw @ $3.30 with Madbookie
